Woo hoo storm

Today we saw one of the scariest storms ever. Luckily we were in a car in Brunswick and slowly crawling down the road. The build up alone was quite spectacular. The sky got so dark even though it was only just 3pm and the wind started building up. Then a giant woosh and all the rain was pouring! Started hearing loud clunking on the roof of the car and we realised it was also hailing. That was quite scary. I yelped every time we got hit. Haha!

That did not last too long. It slowed down to normal rain. But when we got back to the city, I think it must have been worse there. There was so much leaves all over the ground. The leaves must have got torn off the trees and stuck on cars so much that they looked like camouflage. There were also clusters of hail around. Pity I only had the camera phone.

Hail downstairs near our apartment

Lots of drama around as a result of the storm in the news.

Spring!

We are officially out of winter! But it's not like it is warming up too quickly anyway. There are a few more sunny afternoons but it is generally cold still. Some people put snowmen around Melbourne yesterday just to remind people that winter was going to be over. That was quite cute.

Oops! I've dropped my nose!

Rainy market day

We had quite a tough day at the market today with the intermittent showers throughout the whole morning. It was plastic covers on and off so many times that I kind of lost count. But in the end, we still did ok.

One of the best things about today was that I spotted a guy with 2 beautiful Shiba Inu dogs. One black and one brown. I was so struck by how lovely the brown one looked that I went up and asked the guy about them and gave the dog a little head rub :) No pictures because it didn't even cross my mind then.

I do lots of dog spotting at the market - there are always many different ones around and it is fun to watch them greet and play with each other too.

OOoh scary weather!

Was going to go out for lunch today but it's so dark now it almost looks like night and it is raining. The street lights are on even. Feels quite weird. We have had a number of warm sunny days the past week and I guess it is time for that to stop now since it is actually not summer.

Looks like we will not be feeling warm here for a long time since it will be the middle of autumn when we get back at the end of the month. Oh well, hello jackets very soon!

No dramas

It turns out that nothing really dramatic happened in terms of weather today (that I could see anyway) which is good. However, I was on tenterhooks the whole day, watching the weather websites like a hawk! I was expecting some really crazy weather to suddenly burst on the scene but it really wasn't too bad. Some rain and wind but nothing too scary.

Oooh scary scary!

Tomorrow is supposed to be another horrible day after Black Saturday. This time no one is taking any chances, hence, warnings are everywhere so that people can be ready for it and make the necessary preparations to get away if they have to. We've now even got SMSes over mobiles just in case there are people who do not watch TV, listen to the radio or read newspapers.

It seems a little scary even for us living in an apartment because I don't really want to go out in the hurricane winds that are being forecasted.

A touching picture

This moving picture was on the news website today. So many horrible things have happened in Victoria since last Saturday with the high temperatures and strong winds creating the scariest fires ever. So many people have lost their lives and property - the news is counting every day the death toll from the fires and telling stories of how people have lost everything they owned. It is very heartbreaking to see.

Today there is focus on the wildlife that is suffering the effects as well. Poor animals! But this is a lucky koala that managed to survive and meet help as well. I wish I could give it a hug too.

Poor plants

With the last heatwave, all the trees have started shedding their leaves as if it is autumn. It makes me feel quite sad to see them looking like that. There are loads and loads of crisp dried brown leaves everywhere and most plants just look fried. :(

Another hot hot day!

We've got another terribly hot day today. From the morning, the temperature has been climbing steadily up - it is now 45 degrees! Bobbers is in the cool safety of the toilet and we are holed up at home doing art and craft! Hehehe! We have our market stall tomorrow - luckily the temperature will be normal then.

Pendants!

Update to weather: -
The temperature has dropped 15 degrees in less than half an hour! What exciting weather we have here! Strong winds around though.

Phew!

We finally got some relief from the searing heat today. There was a cool change in the late afternoon with some sea breezes coming in and the temperature dropped quite drastically to something more normal.

A little bit of drama on the way home though. When we got home, there was no power in the building and we had to climb the stairs up not knowing if we would make it into our floor if the security wasn't working and the door was locked. We took the risk and luckily we could get in. We hung around for a while not knowing what to do without any power. I went for a shower and the power came back on. :D Hooray! It turned out that they were cutting power to ease up usage because of the large demand to cope with the heat recently.

We are going to have some more warm days but nothing like the heat we've had for the past 3 days so that is a big relief!

Hot hot day!

The heatwave of the year is currently on. Today we had temperatures reaching more than 42 degrees! Every degree it went up made me feel so bad for Bobbers at home. Although there is no sun directly reaching the balcony, it couldn't have been very pleasant for the furry fella. She was quite happy when I gave her a rub down with an icy cold stick when I got home.

Here she is very contentedly lying down in the cool of the toilet :)
Wish I could take her to work with me!

Sunbather

We had nice sunny weather this weekend. Spotted a sunbather in the balcony.

Spring!

Spring is here ! Hmm winter did seem to pass quite quickly this year...The best part is seeing lovely flowers popping out where there were once bare branches. And not forgetting lovely sunny days again. We even spotted a bunch of people sunbathing just in front of their house - on the footpath mind you. They couldn't wait to get to a beach. Hehehe!

We had got out of the city for a change today and I spotted lots of lovely cherry blossom trees in bloom. I was oohing and aahing all over - pity I forgot to bring my camera and only had the phone camera to get some shots. But better than nothing...:D Realised that there aren't too many nice trees in the city which is why I've got that kind of reaction.

The past few days have been rather chilly and even warrants some socks while we are at home with the heater on.

Rainbow

Sometime last week when it was rainy, I spotted a pretty rainbow in front of us. Our view always seems to include a rainbow whenever there is sun after rain. Very nice!

Subsequent to the bleary Sunday we had, the past few days have been quite lovely.

Fluffy clouds and blue skies

Rainbow sunsets
